3 Design Rules You Should Break Immediately
I found myself writing my blog and under each section I said to myself “this is my favorite thing to do” so clearly these are my top 3 favorite rules to break in design.
Hop on board with me, let’s be renegades together.

You Can’t Mix Metallics:
Not going to lie, this one was a tough one for me to break. For as long as I remembered people told me you couldn’t mix metals, but I always loved the look of mixing metals. It has become more common now and most every interior design blog you follow will sport this look. But I needed to list this as a “BREAK THIS RULE IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY!” (sorry for yelling lol it’s just so important).

Never Mix and Match Patterns:
I honestly never thought this was even a rule. I LOVE mixing patterns, in fact I am not sure there is one room in my home that doesn’t have some sort of mixed pattern. Mixing patterns adds visual interest and tons of texture to a space. My advice to creating the look without your house looking like a Frankenstein house is to choose a color palette of 3 – 5 colors and stick with those colors throughout your patterns. Also, I like to keep the majority of the space neutral or solid colored and then work in the pattern one item at a time.

Stick to One Era & Style
Can you imagine a life with NO MODERN FARMHOUSES? Gasp, that would be a tragedy. This is the basis of all modern farmhouses, including ours! I love the juxtaposition between old shiplap walls and modern chandeliers. Or even vintage rugs with modern accent chairs. Mixing old and new is basically my jam for our entire house.
